Samech
Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of HaShem are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

Introduction

  • Last week, we saw how the mem stanza shows that G-d gives life-sustaining knowledge to His servants. G-d waters His people with understanding and insight.
  • We saw how the nun stanza shows how Yeshua, the promised Seed provided light for us – that we might be fellow-heirs with Him.

Samech:  Se’afim = “Double-minded” ( Verses 113-120)

  • samech = support, sustain, uphold
  • Picture = supporting prop
  • Spelling = samech-mem-kaf sofit
  • Value = 60
  • Sound = s
  • Meaning = G-d supports and upholds those who lean on Him completely.
  • This stanza shows how G-d sustains and supports those who lean on Him – but the double-minded are not supported.

    Note: The word “samech” appears most often in Scripture as part of the phrase which describes how the priest was to lay hands on the sacrificial animal (eg. samach - to lean on).

  • Meaning = G-d makes His salvation “visible”
  • This stanza shows that G-d gives understanding to His servants and reveals His salvation to them.
