Lesson Nine(Chapter 28)
The Gospel of the Kingdom
“Who
is like You, O Ad-nai, among the G-ds? Who is like You, glorious in
holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? You stretched out Your right
hand; the earth swallowed them. You in Your mercy have led forth the people
whom You have redeemed; you have guided them in Your strength to Your holy
habitation... Ad-nai shall reign forever and ever.”
Exodus
15:11-13; 18
“They sing the
song of Moses, the servant of G-d, and the song of the Lamb, saying: ‘Great and
marvelous are Your works, L-rd G-d Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Who shall not fear You, O L-rd, and glorify Your
name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship
before You, for Your judgments have been manifested.’”
Revelation
15:3-4
Introduction
- Last week we looked at the Crucifixion. We studied the “big switch” – where Yeshua bar Abba [Barabbas] had Yeshua HaMashiach [the Messiah] take his place. This is where all the followers of Yeshua, had Him take there place.
- This was where Yeshua was crowned for the first time – with thorns.
- This was needed in order for Him to be crowned the second time. There is no kingdom without a king. There is no kingdom without subjects.
- The Kingdom picture is now complete – the Gospel message is all about the announcement of the Kingdom.
- The Kingdom message was made to the houses of Israel. Nationally, they rejected it temporarily, but G-d did not reject them. The mystery of the Kingdom message reveals the extent of the Kingdom of G-d…
Graduation Day
- Matt 28:18-20: Rather than this being marching orders to convert the world to a new religion, this is the announcement that it was time to do as He had done, and taught them – to call all men to repent, and turn to the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – because the time for the Kingdom was at hand.
- 28:18; Dan 7:13-14: Carry the Kingdom message (i.e. the “Gospel”). His Kingdom is coming.
- 28:19; Is 66:18; Micah 4:2; Acts 2:38: Give the “Repent…” message to the nations.
- 28:20; Matt 5:17-19; Ex 33:12-19: Teach them
what? Theology? “Soul winning techniques”? How make an impact on your
community?
- Make disciples (not converts)
- Immerse (mikveh)
- Teaching them all that is commanded
The Gospel – the Kingdom Message
- Ex 15:11-13; 18: “Mi chamocha Ad-nai?”. Who is like you Ad-nai? Moses song after the deliverance of Israel is the first hint to Ad-nai as King. Follow the thread of His Kingdom throughout Scripture.
- Deut 17:14-15;19: A King was always intended for Israel.
- 1Sam 8:4-7: …But the King was never intended to be any other than G-d Himself. The people wanted Saul – a type for “man’s way”.
- 2Sam 7:12-13; 22-29: The Davidic Covenant. The re-establishment of the Throne of Ad-nai over His people. Israel would be His subjects. The “mystery” of G-d in human flesh, sitting on the Throne of David.
- Matt 22:41-46: Yeshua was the embodiment of the promise to David – “G-d with us” to rule over us. He is King Messiah. The manifold wisdom of G-d is revealed.
- The Kingdom message, the “Gospel” or “Good news” was always from the beginning the same: He is King. Obey Him.
- Matt 4:23; Ps 40:7-9 (LXX 39:8-10) “Gospel” in both passages is the same (Is 52:7). The message is the same as it has always been.
- Rev 15:1-4: The Song of Moses and of the Lamb: the conquering and redeeming King.
- Jer 10:6-7; Rev 19:11-16: Ayn k’mocha Ad-nai. None like You Ad-nai – King of all kings. King of the Nations!
Mystery of the Gospel Message.
- Acts 10:9-16; 28; 34-36: Even after Yeshua told His talmidim to go to the nations, they still did not “get it” for years. In their minds it was impossible to have non-Jews a part of the community of G-d. G-d makes clear to Peter the Kingdom message was meant for non-Jews as well – because those who fear Him in the nations were considered His obedient subjects also. WHAT A SHOCK!
- Tradition (dogma) had taught that only “Jews” has a part in the world to come – no Gentiles. For a Gentile to be “saved” He must be “born again” as a Jew through the rabbinic ritual of conversion known as “circumcision” (not to be confused with the circumcision on the 8th day described in Torah).
- Eph 2:1-3; 11-12: Man-made traditions and theologies had cut off Gentiles from the household of G-d, from Israel and the covenants of promise. Now through the Perfect Passover Lamb (Yeshua) Gentiles were added to the Kingdom as a part of Israel.
- Rom 11:11-16; 25-26; Eph 3:1-12: G-d used Israel to call the Gentiles. He will call national Israel. The two are joined to one. G-d’s people in one body.
Summary
- The King is coming. He is calling all to repent, and prepare for His arrival. He is calling His talmidim to obey Him, and to make talmidim of others, teaching them His ways. He wants His talmidim to immerse all His followers – signifying their change of status – from children of wrath, to obedient subjects of King Messiah.
- How has the Kingdom message of Mattityahu changed your relationship to the King?
